GIDRM continues its commitment to the Regional Consultative Committee on Disaster Management (RCC)

by GIDRM

The German Government has supported the annual meetings of the Regional Consultative Committee on Disaster Management (RCC) within the framework of GIDRM since 2014. The 13th annual meeting concluded on 19th October 2016 in Islamabad, Pakistan, with an emphasis on operationalising global frameworks including the Sendai Framework for DRR, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and creating stronger linkages for a risk-resilient development. The meeting was hosted by the Government of Pakistan through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC). ADPC has acted as the RCC secretariat since the committee’s inception in 2000.

The RCC member countries as well as development partners and international organisations endorsed the Islamabad Statement, which is believed to provide valuable input to the upcoming Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) to be held in India in the first week of November 2016. Further discussions were held on the Heart of Asia (HOA) Initiative for Enhancing Regional Cooperation on Disaster Response Preparedness and the potential for a joint preparedness and response mechanism in the region.
